About Melanie Parker
"Creating, comes out of what I hear God speaking to me at the moment or what I am praying for. I love to work with vibrant colors that are full of life and love along with textures that represent emotion. I have always loved to make my mark on life. After years of not creating and life seeming to pass by quickly, I heard a faint whisper. A whisper from God that He has called me back to my first love. To create for him. He called me and reminded me that I am an artist. I create for His kingdom and give Him glory.
Not to focus on myself as I have done in the past, but on His grace, mercy, love and forgiveness. That is what my art comes out of."
Her artistic beginnings:
As a kid Melanie has always created works of art. Melanie's Grandma tells everyone that she has drawers filled with Melanie's childhood drawings. Melanie has always loved to draw and paint. It all started when she was a little girl, she loved to draw things that made her smile and make people happy. Her parents enrolled her in an oil painting class when she was 8 years old and she loved it! Melanie first began exhibiting her oil paintings at age 10, in group shows in Elk Grove, CA.
Her artistic journey and education:
Although Melanie majored in Art in college, she does not have a formal degree and therefore considers herself to be self-taught. Melanie learned how to draw very well from various teachers in High School as well as college. She enjoys realistic portraits as well as abstract. Life had a way of distracting Melanie from what God had gifted her with. It wasn’t until she was at a conference for women that she heard God calling her to create. She says that she was being called back to her first love - art. Melanie gives much credit to her husband, she says he is a HUGE encouragement to her and she could not be on this journey with out God using him in her life! Being married with three children, it's not always easy to create. Melanie works when they are at school. Melanie's art gives her back a piece of herself that was lost and allows healing to continue to grow in her life.
Her Paintings:
Today, Melanie paints abstract life arrangements usually including birds or butterflies and is inspired by her love of God and her family. Laughter, love, sadness...praise, worship are all emotions that move Melanie to create. She shifts between large and small canvases, characteristically using wet on wet, layered application of acrylic paint to create rich, expressive strokes of color. Her subjects range from bright landscapes, day to day life, and various animals. Her art is often described as prophetic, positive and upbeat.
When working with a large canvas, Melanie paints with the canvas laying flat on a table so she can pour and drip paint onto the surface. She is intrigued by its natural flow, physical qualities and texture. Melanie's paintings have been observed as an uplifting display of energy with unique paint texture that is both refreshing and unconstrained, some calling it a form of controlled paint splatter. She will remove paint to reveal the texture of layer below. At the heart of her work is a desire to express his joy of life with others. Melanie specializes in abstract meditative art and abstract landscape paintings using acrylic paint and mixed media. Her abstract paintings are an expression of prayer and worship created with a connection to God and the Holy Spirit in mind. They are the result of exploration and honoring the process to let creativity flow though in the most natural and intuitive way possible.
Melanie is a passionate artist dedicated to taking her art and her career to new levels. Her work can be found in homes, businesses, and schools throughout the United States. To purchase an original painting or to contact Melanie Parker.
